Reasons To Go To Urgent Care This Summer

If you are excited about the summer months and all of the outdoor activities you can do over the summer, you are not alone. Millions of people are amped up about summer and getting out in the warmth and the sunshine. However, with all of that outdoor time, there also come situations in which you should head to an urgent care clinic. Get to know some of the summer situations in which you should seek out urgent care services. Then, you can be sure you are doing what is best for you and your health while you enjoy the beautiful summer weather.

You Get Overheated

One of the most serious situations that should send you to the urgent care clinic is if you get overheated to the point of trouble or discomfort. There is a fine line between being okay and having either heat exhaustion or heatstroke. You do not want to skip getting care if you have one of the latter.

If you notice that you are extremely tired or weak, sweating heavily, have cold and clammy skin, and/or feel nausea or muscle cramps, you may have heat exhaustion. You should get out of the heat and into a cool, air-conditioned vehicle and head to the urgent care clinic sooner rather than later.

Heat exhaustion is serious, but heatstroke can be life-threatening if not treated. Heatstroke involves a temperature of 104 or greater, nausea and vomiting, headaches, a racing heart, and fast breathing. These symptoms require immediate care.

You Have a Bad Sunburn

Sunburns happen all the time during the summer months. Even if you remember to put on sunscreen at the beginning of the day, you may forget to reapply it, or it may not be strong enough for the UV rays outside that day, so you get burned anyway.

Bad sunburns should send you to the urgent care clinic to get checked out. But what is a bad sunburn? A bad sunburn causes significant pain and/or shows signs of blistering rather than just being red and irritated. Additionally, if you have a fever or dehydration with the sunburn, you will want to go to the urgent care clinic as well.

You Get a Rash After a Hike

If you go on a hike through the wilderness and you develop a rash shortly thereafter, you may want to head to the urgent care clinic. You might have come across something like poison oak or poison ivy in your nature explorations. The doctor at the urgent care clinic will examine the rash and prescribe creams or ointments to help with the condition and make you feel better sooner rather than later.

Now that you know a few of the reasons to seek out urgent care services this summer, you can be sure to get the help you need if any of these situations affect you this summer.
